Video: Simple Explanation of the Quiet Eye Theory
This video helps detail the study done at the University of Calgary, by Dr. Joan Vickers in the late nineties. To me, as a goalie coach, it helps emphasize not only the visual puck-tracking required to make a save, but also a goalie creating "quiet time" by getting into position quickly and set early enough that he can get a chance to focus on the puck prior to shot release.
I often use this save as an example about how a "quiet eye" can make an amazing save into a routine save. Here is Brian Elliot's late-game heart-stopping save against the Sharks last season. It is a great save, but watch how long Elliot watches Boyle prior to the shot release.
