Quick's Save on a Low to High Play

Last Saturday, at our Elite sessions we worked several scenarios of pucks going from high-to-low and simulated a tight jam to the near side or a short walk out.  This great save here from Jonathan Quick in the play offs shows his ability to cover the short-side low but still explode out when the in-tight play evolves into a pass to a forward fading from the net (to get aerial angle).  Quick lunges out to the pass receiver and throws his glove forward to the shot-line to take away that aerial angle.  It is an amazing way to play this dangerous situation.  I wouldn't recommend it for everyone, but it definitely can have its place in the modern high-level game.

I like this example even more. Quick is down low to protect from a potential wraparound, but even without a strong inside edge, he can drive off the net's post to well outside the top of the crease.
